AMM, AAU - Almaden Minerals - Institutional Buying

After my last post showed institutions had been selling US companies with good fundamentals and growth I decided to ask: Where is the big money going?

In this post I look at the stocks with the highest institutional buying from among the hundreds in my all-time high stock screen (available in the 'Stock Screen Results' tab at the top of the blog). Kingtone Wireless (KONE) is among them. Notice that Institutional Ownership ('Inst Own') is typically less than 50%, meaning the stocks are not 'over owned' among institutions.

These are mostly smaller, newer, companies so it is not surprising that Piotroski Scores and Altman Z scores are not available or low. Additionally, company valuation metrics can be difficult to apply to resource stocks (which nearly fill the list).

A high Piotroski F-score indicates financial strength, and a low Altman Z-score predicts bankruptcy

The stock with the highest rate of insider buying is Almaden Minerals Ltd. (AMM:TSX; AAU:NYSE). After struggling for several years, AAU has recently been surging on big volume after it reported a successful Gold and Silver find. More about the company, www.almaden.com: "Almaden Minerals reduces the risk and cost of exploration by joint venturing our ideas to other companies which fund further exploration on our projects in order to earn an interest. We currently have over 40 projects in our portfolio at various stages of development." Here is its chart.

I will always go with the opinion of the market, as opposed to anyone else's opinion, including my own. To me, anyone who tells me that a stock which is moving up shouldn't be moving up, has by definition missed something in his analysis. -Braden Glett
