Guppy Charts of Leading and Lagging All Time High Stocks and the Indexes

Guppy Multiple Moving Average (aka Guppy MMA, or GMMA) charts can provide a nice visualization of the short and long-term trend for a stock or stock market. In this post I put together Guppy charts for the best and worst performing stocks from my last performance recap. I think the Guppy charts would have helped exit a losing trade in WMS and let the winning trades in MED, GOLD, and AMZN ride.

Best performing stocks. Note how the short-term moving averages (red) stayed above the longer averages (black) over the past 6 weeks:

Worst performing stock. Note how the short-term moving averages (red) dipped below the longer averages (black) in November and the stock is now in a downtrend:

US Stock Market Indexes. Uptrends in tact for SPY and QQQQ, but the small caps (IWM) are moving laterally:

Finally, GLD, the gold ETF. Uptrend in tact. Note how the averages are spreading apart as the price rise accelerates:

All charts were made using closing prices, adjusted for splits and dividends, from Yahoo Finance.
